NewJeans faces significant legal and financial challenges after performing at Hong Kong’s ComplexCon under a new group name, NJZ, despite ongoing disputes with their agency, ADOR.

Hefty Fines and Ongoing Court Battle
The Seoul Central District Court ruled that each violation of the injunction would result in a 1 billion KRW fine per member, totaling up to 5 billion KRW for group activities. This decision followed NewJeans’ independent promotions and new song release as NJZ at ComplexCon in March.
NewJeans Stands Firm
Despite the court’s ruling, NewJeans asserts that the penalty is temporary, pending the outcome of their appeal. If their appeal succeeds, both the injunction and fines will be voided. The group is also pursuing a separate lawsuit to confirm the invalidity of their exclusive contract with ADOR.
What’s Next?
The next legal hearing between NewJeans and ADOR is scheduled for June 5. Fans and the industry are watching closely as the dispute unfolds, potentially setting new precedents for K-pop artist contracts.
